This is 2 way to play , VR is for incredibles uniques sensations , flat screen is for performance. The difference of lap time is not so big , around 1 second for a 2 minutes lap +-. I ended up spending a bit of time trying to figure it out, and it seems that you need to go to GT Auto -> Customize Cars -> Custom Parts -> Rear -> Type B. For whatever reason that changed the maximum front downforce from 100 to 200 for me.
